About
my beloved sister whom I lost in Moscow Theatre
Siege
It’
has been more than a year since our family lives without
Christina…. I would hardly call it life , it has been
a year of never-ending misfortune . My farther is trying
to find the truth, writing letters to Procurator’s
Office and my mother is crying..
I
have not simply lost a sister in the tragedy of Nord-Ost,
I have lost much more – part of my heart, my soul
mate… Everything dear and light perished with her.
When
we were growing up Mum always used to say: “ You girls
should be best friends, because me and Dad are not here
for long and you will live hand in hand helping each
other.” And now?
What’s
is it all about now?
Christina
always had many friends, she was the apple of the eye
for most of people who knew her, and her smile never
left her lovely face. She had amazing ability to live in
peace and harmony with everybody around her and with
herself. Not only her own classmates and friends easily
got along with her, but even my friends who were much
older found communication with her very appealing and
inspiring.
She
used to spend her free time with books and computer as
many children of her age, but she really lacked free
time, it seems she never had enough…It feels now she
was trying to grasp life, to hurry up as if she knew
that so many things she would not be able to do… She
was only 13!
A
year and a half of her life she dedicated to the musical
Nord–Ost. Half a year before the first night she
passed casing 3 times and got the role of the main
character of the play – Catherine as a schoolgirl. She
was so proud and happy! She was happy when she was told
that she would be starring at the first night. All of us
– parents and I worried about her, but she played her
role so well and the rest of that year she figuratively
lived on the stage! Sometimes we did believe that it was
not our Christina but Catherine Tatarinova, the main
character of the novel by Kaverin “ Two captains “
that became the origin of the future musical. Even the
new year of 2002 our family saw in the theatre as
Christina wished, because theatre became her second home
and actors there her second family.
Three
days before the siege
Nord–Ost theatre was celebrating the first
anniversary of the first night. It was a real festival
with music and laugh and joy. Christina was happy and we
were happy with and near her. We have always been
together and many people said that we were a very happy
and devoted family. It turned out to be that we had to
pay for happiness and the price was too high.
October
23d 2002 crossed everything – the past and the
present.
What
was she thinking about sitting there during the siege?
Believed as everybody, hoping and waiting for help. Her
friends told us later that when gas attack started,
Christina torn her skirt to pieces and passed them to
other children so that they could save themselves. She
could not do otherwise, my beloved sister…
It’s too hard for me to think that the state did not do anything to
save her. She was denied the main thing – her right to
live. Why, what for, whose evil will was it? My parents
are searching for answers, but I doubt they will find
the answer. And grief and misfortune are now in our
house forever…I can only thank my destiny that
Christina was in my life and memory about her can never
be taken away from me…. |
